Anna Marie Garcia, MD, PhD, FACOG, MIGS
Gynecologist
Dr. Anna Marie Garcia is a board certified minimally invasive GYN surgeon with specialization in advanced laparoscopy, robotics, and operative hysteroscopy to address the breadth of GYN issues encountered in a woman’s lifetime. In 2021, she was part of the first US cohort of around 500 gynecologists to earn the focused practice designation of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS) to recognize those physicians nationally who have additional surgical expertise and dedicate a significant percentage of their practice to the care of women with benign and complex gynecologic diseases and who can manage complications using minimally invasive surgical techniques.
In addition to managing complex GYN issues such as benign adnexal masses, large uterine fibroids, deep infiltrating endometriosis and pelvic organ prolapse issues, she has a focus on urinary incontinence and identifying women at elevated risk for numerous familial cancer syndromes, such as BRCA and Lynch Syndrome, to minimize their cancer risk. Management of urinary incontinence and pelvic pain can be life altering for women suffering from these issues, often in silence.
Dr. Garcia grew up in upstate New York, the child of Croatian immigrant farmers. While earning a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology in Buffalo, she married her belated husband, Ephrahim Garcia. She attended Vanderbilt University for medical school and the University of Maryland in Baltimore for her residency in OB/GYN, during which time she had her two children. She returned to upstate NY, when her belated husband joined the Cornell Engineering faculty, and opened Renaissance OB/GYN of Cortland. In January 2021, the practice merged with CMA to allow 100% of Dr. Garcia’s professional focus to be on providing the most advanced GYN care possible to her patients in the local and neighboring communities.
In her free time, Dr. Garcia enjoys travel, appreciates the arts, reading, hiking, cooking, learning, friendships, and focusing on her children’s aspirations. She speaks Swedish, having been an exchange student in Sweden while in high school.
