Cayuga Medical Associates comprises several different medical and surgical specialties. The diversity of practitioners within CMA enables us to provide prompt specialist referrals and facilitates communication among our caregivers and patients.

Our physicians work as a team with an experienced group of nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and staff to provide easily accessible, patient-focused care in a welcoming and comfortable setting.

Cardiology

Cardiologists are physicians who diagnose and treat acute and chronic disorders of the heart. CMA has two cardiology practices, both with highly skilled noninvasive and invasive cardiologists, all of whom are Fellows of the American College of Cardiology (FACC). We have several board certifications and specialty areas among our seven cardiologists including echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, pacing and defibrillation, and interventional cardiology. These subspecialty certifications help to ensure that we are providing state-of-the art care to our community. We also provide 24-hour cardiac-care coverage at Cayuga Medical Center.

Ear, Nose & Throat

Otolaryngologists are trained to offer both medical and surgical management of problems affecting the head and neck area. We treat a wide range of disorders of the ear, nose, and throat in people of all ages, including common illnesses such ear infections, sinusitis, allergies, hearing loss, snoring, and sleep apnea. We also have special training in voice and swallowing disorders, tumors of the head and neck, and congenital abnormalities. All of our specialists are board certified by the American Academy of Otolaryngology.

Family Medicine/Dr. Winkler

Dr. Winkler is devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages.

Hospital Medicine

Hospital medicine physicians are internal and family medicine specialists whose expertise is the care of acutely ill hospital patients. The Hospital Medicine Specialists of CMA see inpatients at Cayuga Medical Center. We limit our practice to caring for patients who are admitted to the hospital, and we work closely with community physicians to coordinate patient care during the hospital stay and following discharge. We treat patients who do not have a personal physician, as well as those patients who are established with a community practice physician. Our group includes experienced hospitalists, intensivists (critical care specialists in the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit), and nurse practitioners. Infectious Disease

Infectious disease doctors are internal medicine specialists who work closely with other physicians to help diagnose and treat serious infections of all the different organ systems in the body. Dr. MacQueen has special expertise in treating infections in patients with normal and compromised immune system.

Neurology

Neurologists are doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating disorders of the central nervous system, comprising the brain, the spinal cord, and the nerves. Cayuga Neurologic Services of CMA has highly trained, experienced neurologists, all of whom are board certified. In addition to their outpatient practice, they all work closely with a multidisciplinary team of colleagues at Cayuga Medical Center, which is designated as a Stroke Center by the New York State Department of Health.

Neurosurgery

Neurosurgeons specialize in the surgical treatment of conditions of the brain and the spinal cord. We use the most advanced computer and imaging technology in the diagnosis of neurologic problems and in the operating room during surgery. We manage the surgical treatment of patients with cerebrovascular hemorrhage and aneurysms, head injuries, spinal problems, tumors of the central nervous system, and congenital abnormalities.

Oncology

Oncology Services of CMA at Schuyler offers patients a comprehensive approach to treating cancer close to home. Our team of medical oncologists work together to provide coordinated, compassionate care. We meet the needs of cancer patients and their families with an interdisciplinary team of professionals who deliver services from diagnosis through treatment to work together toward the common goal of healing.

Orthopedics

Orthopedists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of injuries and disorders of the skeletal system and associated joints, muscles, and ligaments. Sports injuries, broken bones, dislocated joints, torn ligaments, joint replacement surgery, minimally invasive joint revision, trauma and fracture surgery for accident victims all fall within the domain of orthopedic specialists. The physicians at Orthopedic Services of CMA address all types of musculoskeletal injuries, both surgical and nonsurgical. A number of us have extensive sports medicine experience. In addition to general orthopedics, our areas of subspecialty expertise include surgery of the foot and ankle, hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, and joint replacement. We see patients in Ithaca, Cortland, and at Schuyler Hospital.

Pulmonology and Sleep Services

Our board certified pulmonologists and sleep disorders physicians treat people who aren’t sleeping well or who are experiencing breathing problems. They treat a wide range of respiratory illnesses and chest conditions including pneumonia, asthma and emphysema. Our expert pulmonology and sleep medicine physicians are accepting new patients at this time.

Rheumatology

Rheumatologists are internal medicine physicians who sub-specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the joints, muscles, soft tissues, and the connective tissues that surround bones and joints. While there are many conditions rheumatologists handle, among the more common are rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, autoimmune diseases such as lupus, and fibromyalgia.

Sports Medicine

Sports medicine physicians specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries experienced by physically active people of all ages. Our clients range from people who simply want to become fit, to elite endurance athletes who are looking to improve their performances. Sports medicine doctors are knowledgeable about chronic diseases that impact athletic performance, such as asthma and diabetes, and they are experts in injury prevention. At CMA Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance, we are actively engaged in the lives of community athletes both in Ithaca and Cortland.
